Philip Odango of Canvas Cosplay is an award-winning cosplayer and costume designer whose videos have amassed millions of streams on YouTube. Philip began cosplaying in 2005 and has since been an invited guest and cosplay contest judge all over the world, including New York Comic Con, Florida Supercon, Emerald City Comic Con, C2E2, Keystone Comic Con, Vienna Comic Con and Comic Con Africa.
Philip has completed the Disney “hat trick” of having his costumes featured by Disney (Maui), Star Wars (Baze Malbus) and Marvel (Doctor Strange). His work is featured by Star Wars Magazine, GQ, Marvel, DC, Disney, SYFY, The New York Times, Threads Magazine, Sew Daily, Forbes, Business Insider and more.
Philip is a frequent collaborator for partnerships, television and branded projects. He has served as a global ambassador for SINGER™ Sewing Company, and founded the “Bros Who Sew” campaign to encourage the craft of sewing. Brand collaborations include Amazon, Michaels, FISKARS™ Crafts, VELCRO™ Brand, VERO True Social, IKEA, Plaid Crafts, Mehron, Kryolan Makeup, Cosplay Fabrics and JOANN Stores.
As an educator with 20 years of professional experience in marketing and communications, Philip shares valuable insights through classes, workshops and panels with conventions, universities and makerspaces worldwide. He launched his Cosplay Professional Development Series of books and workshops to empower cosplayers worldwide to strengthen their confidence and professional development. He completed Harvard Business School’s Sustainable Business Strategy program and has certifications in inclusion and diversity. He serves on numerous advisory boards and is a grant panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts. His philanthropy includes Operation Smile and the arts.
